GREAT BRITAIN VISITED

A personalized tour of England/Scotland

In the summer of 1999, Stan took a small group to visit England, a corner of Scotland, France, Germany, Austria, and Italy. It was whirlwind tour to sample some of Europe. There is interest in a slower and more concentrated motor tour of just England and Scotland. This will be a small group tour - probably 10 or less - and it will focus on some of the historic and scenic portions of Great Britain.

Tentative Schedule

Highlights of London will be featured, such as Windsor Castle, Hyde Park and Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, London Tower, and the British Museum. By van, we will travel to Canterbury and Dover to the south. Traveling to the west, we visit Salisbury, Stonehenge, and (with expressed interest, a touch of Cornwall and Tintagel (remember King Arthur?).

Group in Bath, England

We will visit one of the interesting Roman sites in England at Bath, followed by a visit to Shakespeare's birthplace, Stratford-on-Avon. Further north, we will drive though the romantic poets' favorite - the Lake Country. A trip through lower Scotland will finally lead us to the Isle of Skye and its classic Scottish castle at Dunvegan. A drive across the Northern Highlands will take us to Loch Ness, where a view of the Loch Ness monster will not be guaranteed! There are several options on our way to Edinburgh, including a visit to the Holy Grail of golf, St. Andrews. A visit to Edinburgh will include a tour of the city, including the dominating castle overlooking it. Making our way back to London, we will visit Hadrian's wall and other sites.

Small hotels (and bed and breakfasts) and restaurants will be featured, and we will make every effort to get in contact with the culture.
